The thing about any story in any media is that we all come to it with a different lens. For you, from your point of view, the engaging aspect was the ethical question of personal responsibility. For me, the part that resonated was the question of personal development. Both are different, and my distaste for one part doesn't invalidate your appreciation, or vice versa.
It's similar to, say, ice cream. You may like ice cream, and I do too. But I'm lactose intolerant, and so it's fair for me to point out to everyone that that for some people ice cream is a bad idea.
I think that in the intersection between what this movie offers and different viewers lenses, there are some potential toxins.
