I think you're right that people under or around thirty have it more difficult than the past. I think the process started from the mid nineties, so just about everyone post baby boomer has slowly had it worse.

I've read that the post war economy in North America, and maybe western Europe, was unusual in history because of it's economic advantages. So what we're seeing now might not be a worsening of anything so much as a return to a kind of normal that is not as fair as the world could be, but is no more unfair than most of history.
