Thanks for responding and for your reasoned argument, though in the end I disagree with your assessment.

Some things have always been wrong throughout history, even if they were accepted at the time. Romans had slaves, but there is no excusing slavery simply because that was how they saw things back then. And we would not simply unironically enjoy a song written in Roman times about a forced romance between a citizen and a slave because we don't want to transpose those values into today.

Similarly, this song represents a cultural attitude that was never okay, it was simply tolerated at the time because of cultural features that allowed it to happen.
